Home Sweet Home!

Well, here were are...5 days after open heart surgery, and Maddie is home. She would have been home yesterday had her mommy not been puking non-stop.

We got home a little after noon, so it was time for Maddie to eat lunch. She picked up right where she left off with her eating.

After lunch it was time for a bath. It was time for a bath since the child had not been bathed since Monday night. To say she smelled like roses would flat out be lying. Please refer to previous posts about her puking and being in the same outfit in all of her pictures since Tuesday.

She enjoyed her bath, as she always does. We are allowed to get the incision wet, just not soak it. Where her 3 chest tubes were, they have just bandaged. So, after her bath we have to cover them back up as they are healing.
The big bruise on her shoulder in this picture is from where they attempted to put in her central line on the day of surgery. It didn't work, so they ended up putting it in the other shoulder. You can kind of see that bruise on the opposite shoulder. Anywhere they had an IV she is pretty bruised up, but that will eventually heal, obviously.

As soon as she got home, she got right back into her schedule. She is now crawling all over the place and pulling up on everything. She is doing everything a little slower than normal, and gets tired a lot quicker, but is pretty much back to her normal self. It is absolutely amazing!

I cannot believe Maddie had open heart surgery last week! She looks amazing. God answers prayers and we will pray that she continues to heal quickly. Love y'all!

Praise the Lord! I am so glad she is bouncing back! We noticed after Robert's surgery (almost 17 years ago!) that he seemed to eat non-stop for several days - making up for lost time, I guess.
So glad that Maddie is doing well. She looks great!
PS - did you get the bag I left for you Tuesday in the family waiting room? If not, I'm sure whoever did needed it! :-)

today lily was whining about something and I kept telling her to hush. She then said that the doctor needed to cut her open and look at her heart. I think Maddie's heart surgery and my mantra of "have the heart of a princess" has gone to the extreme...Does she think Maddie needed heart surgery because she didn't have the heart of a princess?(we also use the mantra - "have Jesus in your heart" but she has been admiring princesses more than Jesus lately. I'm sure that will pass, mother, no need to worry.)

Let's hope she doesnt use the safety scissors to try to make her heart like Maddie's.

I am so glad to see her smiling. I don't think I would be smiling a week after open heart surgery. What a brave little girl.
